Often tingling? This is the cause

Tingling that causes sensation such as numbness or degenerate can occur anytime, for example after sitting in a long time. The cause of tingling can also vary. Tingling is temporary and some are prolonged

Tingling or in the medical terms called Paresthesias is an amused sensation or numbness that is coupled with feelings like you are pierced by needles. This happens when the nerves accidentally get pressure so that the blood flow on the nerves is not smooth.

Tingling is also a temporary and prolonged tingling that is known as chronic paraesthesia. Tingling can also be caused by health disorders or certain diseases. Below are the causes of temporary and chronic tingling.

Temporary tingling causes

It does not only occur in the arms or legs, while a temporary tingling occurs when a member of the body is subjected to stress for a long time. This makes the blood supply to the nerves in the area become obstructed. You can feel a tingling on the legs after sitting a cross-legged or wearing shoes too small.

Tingling on the hands can also be felt, for example when sleeping with a head position of the sleeve.

Because it is temporary, this condition can subside itself if you release a tingling area of pressure, such as straightening the legs after sitting down or letting loose hands be removed. So the blood flow will return smoothly.

Another cause is Raynaud's disease. The disease affects blood supply to certain areas of the body, such as the fingers of the hands and feet. This disease is especially offensive when the sufferer is stressed, nervous, or in a cold-temperature room.

Causes of prolonged tingling

Prolonged tingling is usually associated with your health condition, such as the consequences of suffering from diabetes, kidney disorders, liver disease, stroke, brain tumor, cancer, hormonal imbalance, multiple sclerosis carpal tunnel syndrome, compression of ulnarical nerve.

In addition, medications that you are consuming can also trigger a tingling, e.g. chemotherapy drugs used to treat breast cancer and lymphoma, anti-seizure medication, antibiotics, and drugs for HIV/AIDS.

Exposure to toxic substances can also cause tingling. Related toxic substances, e.g. Mercury, thalium, lead, arsenic, and some other industrial chemicals.

Another factor that causes prolonged tingling is malnutrition due to poor diet, vitamin B12 deficiency, and the consequence of consuming excessive alcoholic beverages

How to know the exact causes of tingling?

If you often feel tingling, you can ask the cause to the doctor. The doctor will search for medical history and complaints, and conduct physical examinations and supporting examinations. Some supporting tests may be undertaken, such as blood tests, electromyogram tests (EMG), cerebrospinal fluid screening, nerve conduction tests, MRI, and biopsies.

Once the diagnosis is enforced, the doctor can determine the treatment for the tingling you are experiencing. For example, if a tingling occurs because of diabetes, then the doctor will remind you to always control blood sugar levels, give medication to maintain blood sugar levels, and apply a healthy diet.

In general, tingling can be minimized by applying a healthier lifestyle, for example:
  1. Routine exercise.
  2. Avoid exposure to toxins.
  3. Avoiding or limiting consumption of alcoholic beverages.
  4. Smoking.
  5. A healthy diet.
  6. Maintain ideal body weight.
Treating and controlling chronic diseases if any, such as diabetes or kidney disease.
Most cases of tingling occurs are temporary. You are advised to immediately visit the doctor if the tingling you are experiencing is worsening, accompanied by the appearance of rash, dizziness, muscle spasms, frequent urination, pain arising in the neck, forearm and fingers, the body feels weak or unable to move, or loss of consciousness.
